Many people feel like diving is just for normal people and it is a costly activity. This time IAHD let the disabled people also have the opportunity to experience the fun of diving, thus narrowing the distance between the disabled and the healthy people, and increase self-confidence of the disabled. I need to learn different skills to overcome my psychological and physical difficulties. In the course of diving we could have a better understanding of our bodies, whereas those helpers can comprehend our needs during the helping process. Both of us are benefit from this activity.

Eva Chu (Dive Master Trainee)
To be able to teach the handicapped scuba diving is also a new experience to instructors. During the process I have learnt that we needed to make special arrangements for the disabled on how to gear up, entries and exits. When seeing them using only their hands or a single leg to maintain balance underwater, this can be considered as their kind of survival skills. I hope by what we have done, their lives could be more hopeful and enjoy the fun of diving. At the same time, we need more funding so that more people with disabilities can participate in scuba diving activities.

Joe Chan (dive buddy of a disabled friend, IAHD Dive Partner)
It was an honor for me to have participated in IAHD’s event and I really learned a lot. The instructors were very thoughtful and careful. They taught us the procedure, the detailed distribution of work, how to enhance our cooperativeness and vigilance, to understand our body and how to make improvement. Thank you to IAHD and the instructors for their patience and love. Wishing IAHD to have a prosperous future.

Diving is not only a fun sport, it also help you to develop your self-esteem and determination.

Anson Yiu and Katrina Yu (Instructors)
This event is very meaningful. The people with disabilities can experience a different world, to feel the calmness and to move freely underwater. We admired their courage and appreciate their trust in us to have put their lives into our hands. We will continue to work hard in order to support them

Diving has always been my dream. The IAHD HK makes my dream come true. So happy, so joyful, very satisfied. The instructors are very professional, the food and the boat are perfect, and I really enjoy this diving trip. Thanks to all instructors.

Andrew Kwok (Wheelchair user)
I am wheelchair bound because of my physical condition. I thought I would never be able to dive in open waters. Thanks to IAHD. I’ve just finished my first open water dive in Sai Kung. Now I believe nothing is impossible. After seeing fish & corals in their natural habitat, I have become immediately an environmentalist! It is really very wrong for human beings to pollute the environment. Most importantly, the diving instructors’ professional skills & passion have deeply touched my heart and encouraged me to be a better man!
